ALEX | PORTRAITS IN NEW HOPE

i met Alex (he/him) and his girlfriend Madison (she/her) while photographing for our local community theatre in Lambertville, Music Mountain Theatre. these two are some of the sweetest, kindest, and most genuine people i have ever met. so when Madison had the idea to surprise Alex with a fun portrait session that would express all parts of himself, complete with outfits she and her friend picked out, i was of course onboard.

i have always been drawn to people who are willing to take risks. maybe it’s because i don’t feel particularly brave myself at times, but i am so inspired by the courage that so many people like Alex demonstrate, when they can step out into the world completely honest and without compromise. over the years, i have found that authenticity is one of my biggest values as a photographer and as a person. my aim in photography is always to tell somebody’s story, and what i love about these kind of photos, or more particularly what i love about people like Alex, is that they bring a piece of their story– their true story with them.

i stand up and applaud the courage, strength, and character it takes to be authentic and true. thank you Alex. i’m proud to call you a friend, and to show the world just a little bit of the amazing person you are.

a note on definitions/pronouns:  Alex specifically uses he/him pronouns, and the term gender androgynous was what he most associated with and preferred. though others with similar points of view may choose to define themselves differently, it is important to me that each person feels seen and heard in being able to use the identifiers and pronouns that they prefer.
