i love to dance. i may not be very good at it… but still, i really do love dancing. often at weddings when the timing is right and a song is particularly putting out really good vibes, i’ll jump out onto the dance floor for a bit to join in on the fun. so when Erica asked me to photograph her wedding not in spite my dancing, but in part because of it, i knew that i was in for a really fun event. she wanted somebody fun and somebody relatable to shoot her and Corey’s wedding, somebody to curse, joke, and laugh with. i was truly honored that out of all the photographers out there in the world she chose me, so i was determined to make her wedding reception one to remember. with her blessing i brought the six-inch heels i had worn for pride week (hiring a gay wedding photographer has its perks after all) and as a complete surprise to her guests, she and i danced to Lady Gaga while wearing them. to say that it was joy would be an understatement.
typically, i prefer to say something about the couples i’ve photographed, and this is no exception. the point of all of my mentioning this is to show the type of couple that Corey and Erica are. they’re the kind of people that are fun and full of life. they’re the kind of people that are authentic and who just want to be themselves. they’re people who invite their wedding photographer to dance with them, and who spread joy to others. they love on their friends, family, and those around them with such zeal and passion that you can barely take it. so grab your best pair of heels, kiddos– this love song is one worth dancing to.
