i am quick to call myself a nerd, a name i wear proudly. whether it’s because of my love of Dungeons and Dragons, fantasy stories, longsword fighting (which i train for on a weekly basis), or the fact that i wear a Star Trek badge to almost every wedding that i shoot, it’s safe to say that the term ‘nerd’ applies to myself. i’m often hesitant to use this word when describing others, as to some it may seem derogatory. however, for AJ and Ally, i think that i can safely call them the same, and they’ll take it for the term of endearment that it’s meant to be. these two are nerds… and nerds who fall in love with each other, seriously make my heart melt.
there were little touches of this couple’s nerdiness if you knew where to look for them at their Rutherfurd Hall wedding in Hackettstown, NJ. AJ and his groomsmen wore superhero socks, the cake was adorned with WALL-E and EVE, and i even had a conversation about a 14-book fantasy series with one of AJ and Ally’s close friends. all told though, their wedding day was full of classic beauty. Rutherfurd Hall is one of my all-time favorite places to photograph because of it’s beautiful ballrooms and sweeping views of the trees. when the sun hits just right, they light up in the most beautiful colors. i always enjoy getting to meet and know my couples personally before their wedding photography begins, and this was definitely no exception. i feel like i could call up either of these two for a game of D&D or a sword fight any day of the week, and that makes me one of the luckiest photographers in the world.
fun fact: sometimes i am mildly inappropriate. doubly-fun fact: sometimes this causes my couples to laugh for days even after the wedding and they will tell me so in a card. hahaha- thanks AJ and Ally for loving my eccentric and sometimes inappropriate self! you two are fantastic!
