‘To die, to sleep;
To sleep: perchance to dream: ay, there’s the rub;
For in that sleep of death what dreams may come
When we have shuffled off this mortal coil…
Must give us pause.’
–William Shakespeare
i am always blown away by the beauty that people can create when they join and work together. it was just a few months ago that i gathered some of my closest friends to talk about my vision for a surreal photography series based roughly within the context of a circus. it was going to be a huge undertaking, and i knew sincerely that there was no way i would be able to do it alone. in all honesty, for a long time i thought the idea would be only that… an idea. but i’ve learned not to underestimate my friends or the crazy amount of passion they have for creating something beautiful. so jumping in feet first, we set out to create a photo series that eventually took a life all on its own. good art does that sometimes… you start forming it thinking that you’re in charge, but then you slowly notice that it’s evolving on its own. sometimes it even moves you in directions you hadn’t thought to explore, and there’s this delightful push and pull between the artist and the art. in a way, they grow each other.
this series came to represent to many of us a spiritual journey through tribulation and darkness. the narrative itself is meant to be disjointed, as if the viewer has walked into a dream. what that dream is, is entirely up to each.
this would not have been possible without the immense help of friends. a huge thanks to everyone who committed to this project.
for a limited time, signed prints of the above photos will be available for purchase and order, please contact me HERE or through this site if you wish to do so.
