KARI + JULIA | WEDDING AT HOTEL DU VILLAGE

it would be difficult to describe how much appreciation, admiration, and love that i have for Julia and Kari. these two amazing women are not only super fun to be around, but they both fill an entire room with their energy and enthusiasm for life. i actually first met this pair a few years ago, when i was recommended by the ever-talented Flora of Lambertville, to photograph a political event that Kari was organizing. both Kari and Julia have spent a good part of their lives working behind the scenes in politics, helping to make a difference in the world in some pretty remarkable ways. needless to say, being family (well, part of the LGBTQ family that is) we hit it off right. so i was both honored and excited when they asked me to photograph their wedding at Hotel du Village in New Hope.

i love getting to photograph same sex weddings hands down, but this couple meant even more to me. they were special not only for who they were– beautiful, smart, and incredibly fun women, but also for the work and effort they had taken in previous years to make marriage equality a reality for so many others like myself and my husband, Matthew. for me the most touching moment of the night came during one of the speeches, when a colleague of theirs said, “Nobody should have to earn their right to get married… but you two sure the hell did.” what started as a small applause grew louder and stronger until all the guests were on their feet in a standing ovation that was filled with love and appreciation for these two champions. with tears in my eyes, i couldn’t help but to applaud right alongside them. words can’t describe the very real feeling of this wedding… how incredibly moving it was, how fun it was, how beautiful it was… but i hope that as a photographer, i can capture just a piece of it all, and that Kari and Julia will get to hold on to the love and feeling of that day for the rest of their lives.
